Can we change someone attitudes?

Yesterday afternoon while i ate instant noodles (Indomie of course...), my wife opened an issue that a person should not maintain his/her disturbing behaviour in a society. Especially if that person is learning about Islam, it means he/she has to manage the way of the attitude toward somebody else, and we cannot tolerate if there's anybody behaves that everybody has to accept his/her conduct. So it means that person needs to change the way of he/she performs in the community, in order to get along with the others.

I just listened, and after my noodles finished i said to my lovely wife that we cannot ask anybody to change the way they act, neither avoid them. We were bounded by the rights of every single person has in his/her lives. As the matter of fact, we can't do anything. We cannot force somebody into something that he/she doesn't want to be. It's call the freedom.

We only can pray to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'aala so that person attitude will be changed and become a pleasant personality. But it's beyond our control, and let's Allah decides, not us. In truth, Allah hold the power on everything, Innaka 'alaa kulli syai-in qadiir. Otherwise, just politely remind the person that his/her attitude could make other person feels uncomfortable and can make him/her as an unpleasant person to be around.
