Once upon a time in Garut

Last December 31st 2006, we had an invitation to gathered with our Grandsheikh in a friend of ours country house at Garut, Jawa Barat. The purposed was to celebrate the New Year by prayed to Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla as our gratitude for the existence of life that Allah entrusted to us. Because we are believe what Allah has gave to us, in a good or a bad conditions, basically its only a lesson in our short life and it is depend on us how to appreciates all of the privileges that we received from Allah The Gracious.

The country house was located in a village about 30 minutes from the city of Garut or from the down-town. Otherwise if we go directly from Jakarta it takes about the latest by 4 hours driving via Cileunyi toll way. The place was beautiful, because the Mountain View and the house were located in the middle of rice fields. The house itself was built in an ex-fish pond. My friend dried out the water in the fish pond and started to install the pillars in order to build a raised platform-house. After it’s been build and the house finished, my friend filled out again the water to the premises and it’s became a very nice and comfy country house.

Actually, it’s a big accommodation with 14 rooms and each room is designed with a modern shower and the flushed closet (it’s an essential object to me), wooden floor, an outside deck with the beautiful of view of the mountains & the rice fields. It has two wings and a small pier for canoes, so we can canoe around the pond. Not to mention the meeting room that fills with antiques things like a becak (it’s similar with a Pedicab or a tricycle), old bikes from the 40’s & 50’s, and a delman (a two-wheeled buggy). Basically it’s a fun place for refreshing the mind after long busy day in Jakarta.

After we arrived at night, we had a very delicious Sundanese buffet dinner cooked by our Grandsheikh wife, Ibu Wejang, and later went to take a nice hot shower the room that had prepared for us. Afterward, we went to the meeting room that everybody waited us in there.

At 11 pm the ceremony started, with our Grandsheikh daughter, teh Joan, opened the speeches and followed by our Sheikh, Aa’ Reza. Both of them mentioned about how we have to give our time and effort mostly to Allah Rabbul’alamin as the appreciation of what Allah have done to us in this life. Then our charismatic Grandsheikh, or we use to call him as Bapak, also had words to shared with us regarding what teh Joan and Aa’ Reza has mentioned earlier.

That night Bapak shared his know-how about what we think that we owned in this world actually it’s not ours but nothing other than Allah kindness as Allah is The Compassionate and The Gracious. Everything what we do is for Allah and nothing else, even if we live and die for Allah. Don’t let your mind busy with other than Allah Ta’aala, and always free your mind from anything that can take away the existence of Allah in it.

As soon as Bapak finished with his quality speeches, we started dzikrullah led by Haji Agus, one of Bapak's long time student (murid), and our Grandsheikh, Bapak himself led the prayed. At that time the weather was cold, but during the dzikr and especially at praying time (du'a) it became warmer and no wind at all, just quiet and silent. It looks like the nature also prayed together with us, it was an extraordinary and a really unique moment.

The ceremony finished 10 minutes before midnight, but shortly it was over i ran immediately to our bathroom because something wanted to came out badly from my body part... I've got to relieve it now or never! Poor me, at the moment between the year of 2006 to 2007, i celebrated in the closet with some stinky liquids poured out from my stomach.

Finally, we begun the year of 2007 by had sirloin steaks that grilled and served at the hot plates along with the fries, veggies, chili sauces and tomato ketchup's. It was wonderful and a happy atmosphere surrounded us. Alhamdulillah wa syukurillah.

We didn't sleep 'till dawn and just sat down in the living room listened to Bapak and Ibu advises about making a healthy husband and wife relationship, plus how to manage the ego from bad into good ego. We went to sleep after shalat Subuh together with Aa' Reza as the Imam.

We woke up at 9 in the morning, took a nice warm showered, and had a nice fully breakfast, then we heard about Bapak stories until the lunch time, and not long after we completed the qashar shalat for Dzuhur and Ashar, we asked permission to our Grandsheikh for returned to Jakarta, and to thanked Ibu and the others for the kindness. Also special thanks to our friend Meckry Raditya and his family to allowed us for staying at their marvelous place and to the hospitalty. Cheers.
